Henraux Foundation | Henraux Collection 1960-1970 | Henraux Prize 2022

The fifth edition of the Henraux International Sculpture Prize 2022 is held this year.  The event, intended for artists aged under 40, is one of the Henraux Foundation’s initiatives geared towards artistic and technological innovation and experimentation, and towards emphasizing the legacy of marble in terms of its history and production. The winners: Nikita Gale, with her work "MARMI", reverses the traditional idea of marble as a metaphor for solidity and permanence, Lorenza Longhi, on the other hand, with her work "Business Card (s)", rethinks the functions and processes of marble working collaborating directly with the specific departments of Henraux.

Himani Singh Soin concretizes the research on polar ice in “Too Much and Not

Enough ", making a marble reproduction of the former Deception Island

whaling station in the sub-Antarctic archipelago of Shetland, as well as staging a performance ceremony inspired by Tibetan mandals.

The projects that have been selected stand out precisely for their ability to tackle central contemporary issues, ranging from environmental issues, to economic and production dynamics, up to the reflection on the work itself and the definition of new unexplored sculptural languages.

The "Henraux 1960-1970 Collection", curated by the director Edoardo Bonaspetti is an opportunity to bring together in a suggestive exhibition the marble works of the decade 1960-1970, a fundamental period in which the company, under the guidance of Erminio Cidonio, succeeded to grasp the profound change that was taking place in the marble industry, collaborating with great international artists who made Versilia their point of reference.

Historical testimonies, archival documents and reproductions are collected and divided into thematic areas that tell the context that allowed the activity of sculptors such as Jean (Hans) Arp, Carmelo Cappello, Nino Cassani, Rosalda Gilardi Bernocco, Émile Gilioli, Joan Miró, Maria Papa Rostkowska, Alicia Penalba, Giò Pomodoro, Antoine Poncet, Branko Ružić, Giannetto Salotti, Pablo Serrano, François Stahly and Alina Szapocznikow.

The masterpieces that make up the prestigious Henraux Collection are housed in a

museum designed by Isamu Noguchi, sculptor, architect, designer and set designer

American of Japanese origin.
