The monument, dedicated to the Fallen of both wars, is composed of a tombstone in pietra serena* and a bronze sculpture which represents two soldiers (it is clear the reference to the First and the Second War) while they are falling. Under the tombstone and the sculpture, there is a basin in pietra serena and, on the right of the tombstone, a lamp.
*pietra serena: grey stone

The tombstone has been inaugurated on 13th August 1972.
The work has been ordered by a town committee presided by Mr. Luigi Lemmi and composed of a member for each family of Poggio.
The entire complex has been designed by the architect Piero Pieri, who has also projected the church near the monument. The two soldiers have been realized by Vitaliano de Angelis, of Leghorn, teacher at the art school Passaglia of Lucca.
