To celebrate his eightieth birthday, the Colombian master Fernando Botero has chosen to animate the summer at Pietrasanta, with an important exhibition entitled “Fernando Botero: drawer and sculptor”, that will take place from 7 July to 2 September, 2012.
“The exhibition – explains the town’s mayor, Domenico Lombardi – will unwind within the historical town centre, in the same squares and streets where Fernando Botero has passed long periods with his family”. The artist’s long-standing creative tie with Pietrasanta dates back to the seventies, and in 2000 he was awarded honorary citizenship of the town.
Firstly, six/seven monumental bronzes will be on show in the atmospheric Cathedral Square, while ten medium-sized sculptures will be in the Church of San Agostino along with a series of watercolours especially created for the exhibition and thus previously unseen. Also of high interest are the previously unseen series of forty 40 drawings, dating to the seventies, that will be on public view in the rooms of the cloister of the Church of San Agostino.
Admission is free, as is customary for Pietrsanta exhibitions.
