Cartier-Bresson e Bragaglia, la vita nella fotografia / Cartier-Bresson and Bragaglia, life in photography

The Ragghianti Foundation inaugurates the new programme of meetings aimed at the promotion of contemporary art with a series of three conferences dedicated to the relationship between art, photography and cinema.
Aimed at exploring the dialogue established between Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti with some of the main figures of the “new arts of vision”, namely the photographers Cartier-Bresson and Bragaglia and the directors Chaplin and Ejzenstejn, the meetings, which are free and open to the public, will be held for three Thursdays in a row, the 4th, 11th and 18th of October, at 5pm, at the conference hall of the Monumental Complex of San Micheletto in Lucca.
Each meeting, which includes projections of images and film, will have a first part when experts from the field introduce the figure in question and a second part presented by Stefano Bulgarelli, art historian and scholar of Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti as well as representative of the Scientific Committee of the Ragghianti Foundation, which further investigates the relevant links with Ragghianti. One of the leading art critics from the 20th century, Ragghianti was one of the first to develop an openness to the most innovative cultural environments of the time in relation to photography and cinema, convinced that these instruments in the hands of art scholars could themselves translate into a critical act and be potentially more accessible to a wider public than verbal criticism.

With this series of meetings the Foundation Study Centre of Lycian Art and Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, ever active in the promotion of activities aimed at bringing together the young and old and contemporary art, also take part in the project “In biblioteca, perché c’è il futuro della tua storia” [In the library, because there’s the future of your history], promoted by the General Management for the Book Heritage of the MIBAC and Tuscany Regional Authorities.
