From 7 June to 28 September, the exhibition dedicated to Inaco Biancalana will be on show in the archaeological section of the Museum of Villa Guinigi.
This consists of seven wooden panels by the Viareggio-born sculptor commissioned by Graziano Grazzini to decorate his confectioner’s shop.
The theme of these pieces is not typical of Biancalana’s work. They take their inspiration from ancient Rome: an armed legionary, the gladiator’s fight and a racing biga, the senator, the matron, Muzio Scevola, and Nero playing the lyra.
This exhibition sees these high reliefs, donated to the museum by Grazzini, side by side with works from classical art.
At the close of the exhibition the panels will be transferred to the Museum of Palazzo Mansi, along with other works by local artists, in the section dedicated to the end of the 19th century and the 20th century.
Opening hours: Tuesday – Saturday 8.30-19.30, doors close 19.00;
Sundays (June, July, August): 8.30-13.30, doors close 13.00;
Ticket included in the cost of Museum entrance (full price € 4.00, reduced price € 2.00).
