Photography that tells a story through images: storytelling at “epea02”. Sunday 21 September, at 11.30, sees the start of the series of meetings dedicated to storytelling organised as part of “epea02”, the second edition of the European Photo Exhibition Award, in the Exhibition Building of the Banca del Monte di Lucca Foundation (piazza San Martino, 7 – town centre). Three authors narrate their experiences, while guests are accompanied by the artistic director of Photolux Festival and curator of epea Enrico Stefanelli.
Sunday sees the Winner of the Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award, photographer Davide Monteleone, present his “Spasibo“(Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award), a project on how the Chechen Republic has become 13 years after the last war with Moscow, documenting a country, symbol of the bloody rebellion, that gained independence and the reward of normality, but at the price of submission.
Saturday (27 September), at 17.30, is the turn of Enrico Gusella with his “Sulla fotografia e oltre” (On Photography and Beyond) (Allemandi Editore, Collana I Testimoni dell’Arte). In this work, the author explores the life and work of some photographers who have contributed most to making photography a form of art in its own right in our times. The aim is to outline a kind of geography of photographic narration and research the most interesting visions of interpreters of life who have chosen to put forward their own individual visions despite using a medium which is mimetic and springs from the epoch of technical reproducibility such as photography.
Sunday 5 October, at 15.30, sees the presentation of “New York Metaphysics of the urban landscape” by Gabriele Croppi; moderated by Mariateresa Cerretelli (SIME BOOKS). The singularity of Gabriele Croppi’s work dedicated to New York lies in the fact that he is able to attain a bare and highly evocative form with solitary figures in some of the city’s busiest and most chaotic areas.
