“Strage al Lager di Hindenburg” – memories of Lucca-born prisoners of war

The book “Strage al lager di Hindenburg” by Renzo Pellegrini will be presented at 17.00 on Saturday 21 September at the Museum of the Comic (ex Lorenzini barracks).Besides the diary of a Lucca-born deportee, the book also contains numerous documents of other prisoners of war from the Province of Lucca deported to Germany.

It is through the dairy of Renzo Pellegrini, an Italian military prisoner in Arbeitslager di Hindenburg in Oberschlesien, that we glimpse the last days of life in the concentration camp. The book also offers a rich appendix of documents from the archives of the German Lager veterans of the Province of Lucca, conserved at the History Museum of the Liberation of Lucca.

This book presentation includes the display of a series of work books with photographs and some uniforms of Italian prisoners of war captured immediately after 8 September 1943, which will be presented before two war diaries of young Lucca residents, who lived through the harsh realities of the war and imprisonment between 1943 and 1945.
