Boccaccio in musica: il Decameron torna a vivere / Boccaccio in music: Decameron back to life

Sponsored by Ministry for Heritage, Culture and Tourism, the Regional Authorities of Tuscany and Capannori Town Council, Nuove Tendenze will perform an event entitled “Vien dunque, amor, cagion d’ogni mio bene – Boccaccio in musica” (“Come then, my love, source of all my joys – Boccaccio in music”) dedicated to and marking the 700th anniversary of the birth of Giovanni Boccaccio, 22 December in Capannori (Lucca).

The reading-concert, which stars the excellent ‘Musica ricercata’ Ensemble of Florence, is a golden opportunity for the public to better appreciate the Decameron, a literary masterpiece, for once returned to its historical context through the recreation of the artistic-musical environment of the late Medieval and Renaissance.

The event consists of the reading of a short story from the Decameron and the performance of various poems from the same work by Boccaccio and set to music by composers active between the second half of the 14th century and the first half of the 17th century.

The ‘Musica Ricercata’ ensemble includes Giulia Peri, soprano, Stephen Woodbury, countertenor, Paolo Fanciullacci, tenor and reading voice, Marco Perrella, bass and reading voice, Michael Stüve, conductor, vielle, violin.

The event starts at 21.00 at the Artè space in viale Carlo Piaggia. Free admission.
