The inauguration of the exhibition “The furnace of Porta S. Donato: a ceramicist’s workshop in XVII century Lucca” will take place Friday 4 April, 17.30, at the Villa Guinigi National Museum.
Introductions will be made by the National Museums’ director Antonia d’Aniello and Dr. Giulio Ciampoltrini, who will also give a presentation entitled “Remembering Graziella Berti and the years of S. Donato”.
In July 1982, during restoration works near the Porta Vecchia di San Donato, the remains of a glass and ceramic production furnace were discovered. The structure of the Porta Vecchia di San Donato furnace is unique, at least within the Lucca area.
The exhibition of the finds, curated by Silvia Nutini, will be held at the Casermetta (Barracks) of the Villa Guinigi National Museum from 5 April to 5 September, with free admission.
Hours:
from Tuesday to Friday: 13.00-19.00
Saturday: 10.00-13.00, 15.00-19.00
