From 5 July to 2 November, the Lu.C.C.A, Lucca Centre of Contemporary Art hosts
the photography exhibition “Retrospective”, curated by Maurizio Vanni, in collaboration with Magnum Photos.
The exhibition celebrates the artistic sensitivity of the 20th century’s greatest war photographer, Robert Capa.
The exhibition shows us all “his” wars and a number of historical events he eye-witnessed: revolts, civil wars, demonstrations, conquests, salvation, edification of new states, from Europe to Asia, up until his 1954 voyage in Indochina, where he met his death due to a land-mine.
His photos document the facts that he witnessed in a precise and valuable way. Through his shots, Capa forces the viewer to immerse themselves in the scene and experience it as vividly as he did, in the pain of death, in the frustration of impotence and joy of survival.
