From 26 July al 27 October, Villa Bertelli hosts a new exhibition: VIE DELLA SCULTURA, this the title of the event organised as part of the series of exhibitions “La città degli Uffizi” (The city of the Uffizi), that celebrates great artists from all over the world who in the course of their career have recognised Forte dei Marmi and its territory as a homeland of sculpture.
Thirteen 20th century and contemporary Italian and international sculptors and twenty-six exhibits: from each of the artists a self-portrait or graphic work from the Uffizi Gallery alongside a sculpture from the Apuan-Versilia region, selected from the marble workshops and foundries of the region, the public and private collections of the area or the collections closely tied to this land.
The exhibition is therefore restricted but unique for the quality of the works on show, the calibre of the artists represented and focus on the presence of international sculptors. This mean at times models in plaster or maquette that reveal the secret and private design phase of each sculptor’s exploration; at others they are finished works, presented autonomously.
The exhibition space, created using small purposely designed monographic rooms, gives rise to an intimate and direct exchange between the two works of each artist, which allows the visitor to focus on the unique characteristics of each artistic inquiry.
The exhibition retraces the passage in Tuscany of great international artists who chose to extend a tangible sign of their visit to Italy by donating a work to the Uffizi Gallery for the Vasariano Corridor self-portrait collection, or in tribute and recompensation to the Gallery, after it was badly damaged by the via dei Georgofili bomb. Today, thanks to the VIE DELLA SCULTURA exhibition these same artistic donations return to embrace their land of origin, after having known the privileged location of the Uffizi Gallery to entrust a sign of their art and bond. In other words, from the Uffizi to Forte dei Marmi and back. (Press release)
“Vie della scultura” encompasses numerous initiatives: with a photography exhibition it tells of the backstage work for the preparation of the event, it celebrates one hundred years since the foundation of Forte dei Marmi Town Council returning the works of art to the places in Versilia that inspired them and made them “possible” by providing the exceptional marble for the sculptures. It also promotes the onlus project “Un Cuore, Un Mondo” of the Ospedale del Cuore G. Pasquinucci Foundation Toscana Gabriele Monasterio di Massa.
