With “Dark Optimism” David Lynch proves himself as an exceptional photographer

Con "Dark Optimism” David Lynch si scopre fotografo d'eccezione / With "Dark Optimism” David Lynch proves himself as an exceptional photographer

From 23 August to 14 September, Palazzo Panichi dedicates its rooms to the world famous film director David Lynch.

His career extends into countless artistic fields; Besides being a formidable film director, Lynch is also a singer, musician, painter, cartoonist, producer, screenwriter, writer and designer.

However, the protagonist of “Dark Optimism” is photography by this polyhedral American artist. The series of works on show for the first time in Italy in Pietrasanta, “Women and Machines”, counts 16 disturbing black and white works, that immortalise two key Lynch subjects: women and machines, capturing their dual identity as “creative” and “destructive” elements.
For the first time, this exhibition presents Lynch’s lithographic activity, who since 2007 has produced over 200 lithographs, having been fascinated by this ancient art and by the atelier Item, of Paris.
The exhibition, funded by the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca and the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, Pisa e Pistoia, will also include the screening of a series of short films created by Lynch, giving shape to an unprecedented itinerary through the complex and disquieting creative universe of the American artist.
