“La bimba che aspetta” (The Waiting Girl) is a marble statue, situated in Viareggio Cemetery, created by the Carrara sculptor Ferdinando Marchetti at the end of the 19th century, that has maintained its extraordinary allure to the present day, and generated a host of stories and legends.
The moment of this sculpture’s creation is the starting point that prompted the Viareggio-born actress, author and director Elisabetta Salvatori to explore the world from which it sprung. This gave rise to a theatre piece: a touching tale, embedded in the exalting cultural and political atmosphere of its time.
The narration develops following a research itinerary through folklore made up of feelings and craftsmanships, a passionate and engaging way to enter the world of marble, accompanied by lights and images reproduced by the cutting-edge technology of the MuSA, and the melodious music by Matteo Ceramelli (guitar and violin) and Davide Giromini (accordion).
