“Le conversazioni Napoleoniche” returns this summer with a new edition: three evenings dedicated to revealing some of the lesser known details of Napoleon’s life and those who were closest to him.

The talks will have different themes and take place in the Cloister of San Micheletto Church at 21.30.

18 August:

“Soldati a 4 zampe: nati con e senza la camicia” (Four-Legged Soldiers: the Lucky and the Unlucky). The topic of the first appointment, curated by Ms Giurlani Pardini and Ms Gini Bartoli, will be the story of Moustache – the dog that on the day of the battle of Austerlitz (2nd December 1805) guarded his squadron’s flag from the Russians, despite being seriously wounded – and his “colleagues”.

19 August:

“Intrigo internazionale a Sant’Elena. Un governatore, un medico e l’Imperatore” (International Affairs in Saint Helene. A Governor, a Physician and the Emperor), by Peter Hicks, university lecturer of history, historian and Head of the International Relations Department of the Napoléon Foundation in Paris, who will talk about He will talk about Barry Edward O’Meara, the Irish doctor who assisted the Emperor during his exile, and was then driven away by the English governor three years before Napoleon’s death.

20 August:

Screening of the film “Un regista alle prese con Napoleone. Abel Gance e il suo film leggendario” (A Director in the Throes of Napoleon. Abel Gance and His Legendary Film), by Pier Dario Marzi, in collaboration with Cineforum Ezechiele 25,17. The last evening of talks is centred on the making of the masterpiece “Napoleon”, investigating the relationship between the famous director, his vision and the myth of Napoleon, such a huge character that even Stanley Kubrick found the challenge of undertaking of a film about him overwhelming.
