The monument, located in the centre of the garden in the centre of the piazzale Verdi in Lucca, has a large base from which a tall square column stands. At the summit there are bas-relief fasces of lictors and tricolors. In front of the monument there is a cippus with bas-reliefs on which a large stone (from the Carso mountains) stands.
The work, designed by Francesco Petroni and built by the ANC inside the Park of Remembrance, was inaugurated 8th June 1924. Construction was interrupted for lack of funds and the work was officially completed for the celebrations of 4th November 1928.
