"Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte - Just like the movies": le più belle pellicole tornano a vivere nel centro storico della Città / "Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte - just like the movies" the best films come to life in the old town centre

With “Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte“, the town centre takes on a new life catapulting its citizens into fantastic and memorable environments.

Saturday 21 March, from 7pm, new areas of the town will be dedicated to different cinema genres: premises, restaurants and hotels have been involved to provide locations prepared as sets, with menus and performances in theme with selected films.

Now in its third year, and following the success of last October, attended by almost 30000 people, the event “Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte” doubles to become one of its kind in Europe, bringing together and welcoming numerous forms of arts, for all tastes.

The festival involves businesses, professionals in the field and schools of dance, music and theatre, forming alliances with the other large cinema events, such as the Lucca Film Festival, Lucca Movie & Comics and Photolux Festival

We will even have a Main Event that bears the signature of an A list international star of the big screen.

Details:

The areas:

Area 1 Western

The Southern area of the town centre – from Porta San Pietro (entrance to the town from the train station) to Corso Garibaldi – will reconstruct the atmosphere of the American wild west films and some of the most famous spaghetti westerns. We kick off at “L’elemento Bistrot” with “… Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità” and continue with “Django Unchained” by Quentin Tarantino (at the “Shaker” pub), “The good, the bad and the ugly” (Caffè Monica), “Seven brides for seven brothers” (“Old City” pub) and “Wild Wild West” (at “Lo Skianto”). The area will be animated by companies of dancers and performers, and acting workshops, thanks to a partnership with the Del Giglio Theatre.

Area 2 Sport

Piazza Napoleone, Piazza Del Giglio and Piazza San Giusto. Here, thanks to the collaboration of the local world of sport, the most famous sports related films will be recreated. There is boxing, with “Rocky” (Bar Pacini), football, with “L’allenatore nel pallone” (da Ciacco), fitness with “Perfect” (at Stella Polare we can relive the famous 80s film with John Travolta that immortalised Jamie Lee Curtis as “The body”), “Space Jam” (at Bar Astra, together with the basketball team Ducato Le Mura), “A league of their own” (celebrated film with Madonna and Geena Davis, animated by the baseball and softball team “Nuove Pantere Lucca”), “The karate kid” (at “Soup in town”, along with local martial arts groups) and Formula One of “Rush” at the Giglio Restaurant (see “Area Food”).

Area 3 Japan

In Piazza Della Cittadella, right at the feet of the Birthplace Museum of Giacomo Puccini, there will be the main performance inspired by “M Butterfly” by David Cronenberg, one of the protagonists of the Lucca Film Festival 2015, while the Osteria La Tosca and Bohemien sees the reconstruction of the Nouvelle Vague masterpiece “Hiroshima Mon Amour” and the Puccini Restaurant brings “Black Rain” by Ridley Scott to life.

Area 4 Battle

The most central area, with fulcrum in the ancient Roman Forum of Piazza San Michele, is where the most famous battle films come to life. Starting with the “blockbuster of all blockbusters”, “The Hunger Games”, recreated at the historical Caffè Casali, passing to the Caffè del Mercato (better known in the town as “Peschino”) with the world of “Mad Max”, famous Australian film that launched Mel Gibson to stardom, creating the cinema sub-genre “post apocalyptic”, with a reboot released from 21 March. The area continues with “Gangs of New York” by Martin Scorsese, that is reconstructed at Rewine, where the “Dead rabbits” and “Native Americans” make an appearance during the course of the evening accompanied by the famous soundtrack by U2. The area concludes with “The Great War” by Mario Monicelli, in programme at the Pult in via Fillungo.

Area 5 Movie Cars Show

In Piazza Bernardini, this area serves as a link between the Area Battle and that of Little Italy. It will be animated by the “sentient” cars of the cinema, from “Herbie – The love bug”, to Kitt from the “Knight Rider” series, to the more recent robot-cars from “Transformers” directed by Michael Bay.

Area 6 Little Italy

A new area in the east of the town centre – from Piazza Santa Maria Fuorisportam to Villa Bottini – that, inspired by the Italo-American cinema imagery, that brings film on the underworld and immigration to life. There will be (needless to say) “The Godfather” by Francis Ford Coppola (at “Caffé Lucca”), “The Untouchables” by Brian De Palma at “Gli orti di via Elisa” (see “Area Food”), “The immigrant” by Charlie Chaplin (at “L’antica drogheria”), “Once upon a time in America” by Sergio Leone (at “Vispa Teresa”) and “Titanic” by James Cameron (at “Civico 94”).

Area 7 Monsters

The northern zone of the town – from Piazza San Frediano to Piazza Santa Maria – will recreate the atmospheres linked to the great films of the (more or less recent) past featuring some of the most famous monsters in the history of cinema. From “Predator” (at the Osteria Lucca Drento) where we relive the 1987 film with leading man Arnold Schwarzenegger thanks to the monster created by Pizzolitto Fx Studio, to Freddy Kruger at the Vinarkia in the setting inspired by “Nightmare on Elm Street” by Wes Craven. Further north are the classic monsters of Universal: “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” (Ciclo Divino), “An American Werewolf in London” (De Cervesia) and “Frankenstein Junior” (Betty Blue).

Area 8 Lec-Food

Dotted around all the areas, “Lucca Effetto Cinema Food” is the new sub-brand of “Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte” and includes four restaurants selected and decorated in theme with films which feature in the related areas. The festival staff will oversee the special themed menus, marking the event of 21 March. Essential for those who want to be fully immersed in the experience of “Lec Notte 2015”, the following restaurants, with their respective movie themes, have been chosen: “Puccini Restaurant – Black Rain” (Area Japan); “L’elemento Bistrot – … Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità” (Area Western); “Gli orti di via Elisa – The Untouchables” (Area Little Italy); “Giglio Restaurant – Rush” (Area Sport).

Area 9 Main Event (piazza Anfiteatro)

Piazza Anfiteatro will host the main event of “Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte 2015”: a large installation/performance by an undisputed star of world cinema, co-produced by “Lucca Film Festival”, “Lucca Effetto Cinema”, “Cecchi Gori Entertainment” and all the local businesses of the area.

Area 10 Welcome Area

Thanks to the great spirit of collaboration between the organisation of “Lucca Effetto Cinema Notte” and Confcommercio Lucca and Massa Carrara, the “Welcome Area” for this third edition will be held in the association’s head-offices, at Palazzo Sani (via Fillungo). Here, for the whole day of 21 March, there will be the press reception and the info point for visitors. With free wi-fi, the “Welcome Area” will host interviews and the inauguration ceremony of the event.
