Satire won’t give up: double exhibition “Aspirina. Rivista acetilsatirica” and “Inchiostro coraggioso”

The Museum of Satire and Caricature inaugurates two exhibitions 11 April at 6pm, at Villa Bertelli.

The two exhibitions, entitled “Aspirina. Rivista acetilsatirica” (Aspirin. Acetilsatiric Review) and “Inchiostro Coraggioso” (Brave Ink), aim to honour the skills, strengths and different standpoints of cartoonists, beyond any attempt to limit their freedom of expression.

Aspirina is a comic that represents the female perspective on humour. It started in 1987 in Milan, on paper, and was reinvented online in 2013. After the Charlie Ebdo attack of 7 January and the issue “Aspirina parigina”, that reflects on satire and politics highlighting its editorial standpoint, the Museum of Satire has decided to showcase numerous comic strips in this exhibition, both from the printed and online versions of the magazine.

“Inchiostro Coraggioso” came about with the dual aim of remembering the dramatic events of Paris and at the same time addressing the wider discourse on freedom of speech. This exhibition, curated for the Museum of Satire in Forte dei Marmi by the founders of the humorist newspaper ‘Buduàr’ together with the association of cartoonists ‘Feco France’, brings together strips by cartoonists from France, Italy and other parts of the world, driven by the desire to make their voice heard.
