Sculpture and poetry, the new exhibition by Alfredo Lucifero, is on show from 4 December to 7 February, in the Putti room at the Cloister of the Church of Sant’Agostino in Pietrasanta.
From press release: This exhibit by the Pisa-born of Calabrian origin Alfredo Lucifero, is an infinite bestiary, a collection of hunting trophies, quasi-mythical animals, both fierce and clumsy, like the “Jaguar” and the “Hippopotamus”, gorgeous women just created from primeval matter, and the famous busts of “Pope Francesco”, “Christ” and the “Sleeping Madonna”. On the opposite side of the room stand “The Evil“, “Lucifero” and “Lucifera”, the latter a feminine version of “the light-bearer”, to highlight how the world is divided between good and evil. There is also an “Indian Buddha”, “Chinese Dragon” and figures from Ancient Greek like “Hermaphrodite“. The exhibit opens Friday 4 December, attended by the artist and Pietrasanta’s Mayor Massimo Mallegni. Vittorio Sgarbi, in the preface of the exhibition catalogue, writes: “Lucifero wants to save not only the single animal species, but nature’s own meaning, a source of countless wonders, and eternal satisfaction for mankind. Lucifero creates, but without any pretence at rivalling, contorting or reinventing nature, of transferring his spirit into its creatures. He models matter without it being forgotten in the form. He leaves bronze its rustic, rough plasticity, as if everything starts and finishes with bare earth”. Lucifero’s favourite themes are love, motherhood, animals, human contact, life, joy, pain and death. With poetry, another key element of his anthology, “the artist – writes Enrico Mattei, young Versilian critic – succeeds in communicating those things that go beyond and cannot be said with sculpture“.
The exhibition, with free entry, is open from Tuesday to Sunday (and bank holidays), 4pm – 7pm.
