For the first time in Europe, after the successful exhibitions in Argentina and Chile, arrives in Italy the exhibition Chinese Propaganda Posters, Serve the People, China: Revolution – Evolution from 1949-1983, curated by Massimo Scaringella.
It is a selection of about 90 Posters of the Maoist Chinese propaganda, belonging to Hafnia Foundation in Xiamen (China) – one of the largest collections in the world on this issue. An unprecedented journey into the recent past of the Eastern giant that helps to understand the present and predict the future.
The posters date from the period between 1949 and 1983, a period that coincides with the Presidency of Mao Tse Tung and his historic 'Cultural Revolution'. To facilitate visitors, posters have been classified into several categories: Society, Industry, Socialism, and Painting, and other subcategories. There are several styles and techniques adopted by various artists over the years, but the central theme remains constant: a propaganda which focuses on the peasants and the working class portraying work and family routines.
