SANT'ANTONIO, the blessing of the sea

The parish church of St. Anthony of Marina di Pietrasanta is pleased to invite the citizens and vacationers to the feast of the Patron Saint St. Anthony of Padua, patron of the costal areas sea, its inhabitants and of the ships.

The event was founded in 1933, year of the dedication of the church, located in the central town of Tonfano, to the Saint. Most impressive are floral display on the church square with beautiful carpets of flowers and the blessing of the sea and boats at night with a parade of illuminated boats.

 

 

Sunday, June 12
at 9:00 pm – S. Antonio's concert, with the participation of choir S. Cecilia from Buti, the parish choir Cant'Antionio and the Schola Cantorium of Marina di Pietrasanta.  

Monday, June 13
h. 8:00 am – Holy Mass and blessing of the bread.

h. 11:30 am – Solemn Mass presided by the Archbishop of Pisa, S.E. Mons. Benotto, with the participation of Schola Cantorum of Marina di Pietrasanta. At the end of the Mass, blessing of the lilies and of the children. 

h. 18:00 – Blessing of the workers of the sea and of the boats, in the presence of the civilian and military authorities. Commemoration of those lost at sea. 

h. 21.30 – Procession with the statue of the Saint starting from the church (via Verdi 13). Itinerary:  via Duca della Vittoria, via Donizetti, piazza XXIV Maggio, piazzala L. Amadei to the pier's top.

h. 23:00 – Toast. At the end of the procession, in the churchyard will be offered a toast by the Hotel-keepers, Traders and Beach resorts Associations.
