"Confini e Prospettive" is the theme of '8th edition of Cartasia 2016, and is the common thread that must animate both the works of the artists in competition, that the side events.
Cartasia is an urban open-air exhibition. The artists engage in fact the realization of large paper works in close cooperation with the manufacturers. Companies important and scattered on the territory of Lucca, marked by this production since the early 1300s.
Cartasia is, therefore, a city, a region and its excellence, told by artists through its main product, paper. Each square or urban space is adopted in conjunction by a renowned artist and paper company. The first offers the creativity, the second patronage, sponsorship and support.
The historical memory of paper production is, in fact, one of the ideas that always move Cartasia. In this area the paper production is now consolidated experience that has produced over the centuries machinery and modes of production, social, cultural changes, and costume. The conservation and preservation of this memory is a debt to past generations and a resource for future generations.
In addition to installations en plein air, exhibitions, events and performances create a rich calendar of events throughout the month of the Biennale:
Outdoor shows: International Artists are hosted in the city of Lucca to achieve monumental services in paper. The works are exhibited in the streets for the month of August.
Indoor exhibition: an exhibition at the Palazzo Ducale with some of the most important and valued paper works.
Design: The Biennale hosts a section of design, inside a historical building of the city of Lucca. that offers design innovations, prototypes in development, interior furnishings.
Talks: meetings of different duration and implementation, which will be dealt with current affairs, education, art, design, politics, business, cinema, sociology, all related to the theme "Borders and Prospects"
Creative workshops: designed and structured according to the Munari method, will be preceded by a guided tour of the paper sculptures
On days 7, 8 and 9 September, a "Three days," in which universities, FabLabs, Designers and Companies are confronted on the state of the Paper Design and speak of their projects developing.
