The 'Viareggio award' opens in the season of the great Italian Literary Awards of the twentieth century. After the 'Bagutta', designed by Orio Vergani in 1926 within the four walls of a trattoria in Milan, the 'Viareggio' was born in 1929 on the beach in Versilia and "under an umbrella" initiative of three friends Leonidas Rèpaci, Carlo Alberto and Salsa Colantuoni. The company welcomes elected then and Gian Primo Conti Cape, with the intention to steal the prize at the closed circles and open it en plein air to the free movement of ideas in the Italian literary society.
Viareggio was chosen because of the love that the founders showed towards this amazing sea resort.

The Prize 'Author of the Year' of the Literary Award Viareggio-Rèpaci is given to a living author who writes in Italian, regardless of his / her nationality, as aknowledgement of his whole literary activity, taking inspiration from a work of fiction or poetry or from an essey .

The final evening will take place in Viareggio, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, with the awarding of the nine winners of the Prize "jury–Viareggio", the announcement of the three winners of the "Viareggio Rèpaci" award and the winner of the Prize for the "Graphic Novel" .
The mayor of Lampedusa and Linosa, Giusi Nicolini, will be awarded the International Prize "Viareggio–Versilia" and Professor Amedeo Quondam the Viareggio Prize for Lifetime Achievement.
