SGRAFFITI A CASOLI

Sgraffiti in Casoli is an event launched in 2006 which takes place annually during a weekend and to which participate several artists. Promoter of the festival is
the Village committee of Casoli in collaboration with the Municipality of Camaiore.

In these days traditional graffiti are engraved on the walls of the small village in tribute to the artist Murabito who lived and worked there. He was responsible for the first graffiti on the village square. This initiative arouses the interest and the will of participation of many artists.

In the early years of the event, art schools as well as professional artists took part. Now, instead, participation is restricted to paid professional artists who are selected by means of an annual announcement of the competition. This change came out of the need to raise the qualitative level of the work, the better to promote Casoli as both an artistic and tourist destination.

With this new prospectus the Village Committee, since 2009, has invested Franco Pagliarulo with the task of artistic curator.

The sgraffito is an ancient technique that comes from the fresco. Widespread in 1500 and during the Art Neuveau  period on the exterior of the buildings. It is a fresh incision of several layers of colored mortar.

Since 2011, during the weekend of the event a workshop will be held for anyone interested in learning the technique.
