Vincenzo Lunardi (Lucca, January 11, 1754 – Lisbon, 1 August 1806) was an inventor and Italian official, aeronautics pioneer.
The September 15, 1784, using a balloon inflated with hydrogen, Lunardi made the first ascent in England, in Chelsea (London), in the presence of the Court. The balloon had a diameter of 33 feet (about 10 meters) and was provided with two read blades by means of which Lunardi intended to regulate the rise. After a flight of 2 hours and 15 minutes, Lunardi landed in Ware, Hertfordshire a location.
This large and little-known character Lucca, is the protagonist of the study day at the State Library of Lucca.

At 6.30 the Bastion S. Paolino will be a flight in a balloon bound by the Lucca Vincenzo Lunardi Balloon Club, consistent with the weather conditions of the day.
