LUCCA FILM FESTIVAL AND EUROPA CINEMA – The feature films in competition

An extraordinary red carpet to welcome the film festival which ideally joins  the maintown Lucca to Versilia with stars of depth such as Oliver Stone, Willem Dafoe, Aki Kaurismaki, Olivier Assayas, Valeria Golino and Julien Temple. The structured program starts on April 2 and will affect numerous locations both in Lucca in Viareggio.
 

With European films will be attending the festival the Finnish master Aki Kaurismaki, who won the silver Bear at the Berlinale in 2017 with 'The Other Side of Hope', the French filmmaker Olivier Assayas recently awarded in Cannes, Cristi Puiu master who opened the season of "New Romanian Cinema" and Bruno Monsaingeon among the greatest musical documentary filmmakers in the world.

 

To each one of the award-winning international movie stars will be dedicated tributes with screenings, prize givings and meetings with the public.

 

Two are the contests for the new generation of film directors with daily screenings of feature and short films in the cinemas of Lucca and Viareggio. In addition to this there will be an important review of old and new films out of competition.

Plot: A film on the theme of youth rebellion which flows into vandalism and forms of violence that in the long run are likely to backfire on those who used them.

 

Monday, April 3rd

h. 15:00 – Lucca, Cinema Centrale – The Levelling, by Hope Dickson Leach, U.K, 2016, 83′, col. Plot: It is the emotional journey that is forced to undertake a veterinary after returning in the house in which her brother died and where she, who has long lived elsewhere, has to deal with her father and the farm's needs.

h. 16:45 – Lucca, Cinema Centrale – Afterlov, by Stergios Paschos, Grecia, 2016, 94’, col. Plot: A funny, moving, biting story about the after-love between two people who refuse to grou up.


Tuesday, April 4

h. 17:00 – Lucca, Cinema Centrale – Requiem for Mrs. J., by Bojan Vuletić, Serbia/Bulgaria/Macedonia, 2017, 93′, col. Plot: A woman decides to commit suicide, but she first wants to leave everything in order and to top it all she needs is a certificate attesting the work she has done over the past 20 years. But getting the certificates proves to be more difficult than expected.

h. 18:45 – Lucca, Cinema Centrale – Dao Khanong, di Anocha Suwichakornpong, Tailandia, Paesi Bassi, Francia, Qatar, 2016, 105’, col. Plot: The film follows the lives of several characters and as it goes on, it reveals layer after layer of the complexities that inform their lives.

 

Wednesday, April 5

h. 15:00 – Lucca, Cinema Centrale – Tamara y la Catarina (Italian première), by Lucía Carreras, Mexico, 2016, 107′, col. Plot: It is the history of these two women who are desappearing in their lonliness and inviisbility and shows how the two of them, one in the other, manage to find a space in which they finally feel needed.

h. 15:00 – Viareggio, Cinema Centrale – The Misandrists (Italian première), by Bruce La Bruce, Germany, Canada,  2017, 91′, col. Plot: A secret terrorist  cell of feminists is planning to liberate women, overthrow the patriarchy, and to inaugurate a new women's world order.

h. 16:45 –  Viareggio, Cinema Centrale – Butterfly kisses, by Rafael Kapelinski, U.K., 2017, 89′, b/w. Plot: We follow Jake and his two best friends in a world distorted by sex and pornography. Everyone has his own demons, but Jake's secret can not be revealed to anyone.

h. 18:30 –  Viareggio, Cinema Centrale – El Invierno, by Emiliano Torres, Argentina, 2016, 95’, col. Plot: A drama movie set in Patagonia tells of  the dismissal of an older worker and his replacement by a younger, but also traces the psychological effects on both the face of change.

When he falls into the hands of a local gang; he is attracted by the camaraderie and violence of their world.
