National Museum of Villa Guinigi – National Museum of Palazzo Mansi

The National Museums of Villa Guinigi and Palazzo Mansi in Lucca each represent with their own characteristics, two different and complementary aspects of Lucca's artistic history. They are located in two prestigious residences located within the late Renaissance wall circle, the "arborato circle", and today they constitute an integrated museum system whose potential has recently been enhanced by the important works of ordering and rearrangement. Palazzo Mansi, a real museum-residence, is an exemplary document of the dwellings of the Lucca merchants, in close connection with the peculiar events of the local nobility. Today Villa Guinigi is configured as a museum of the city and its territory, thanks to one of the richest and most interesting collections of works of art produced for Lucca by Lucca or foreign artists operating in the city for ecclesiastical and public clients.
