The first Summer Festival event took place in 1998 and even though it was organised on a smaller scale than successive events (the programme only offered four concerts), presented already the characteristics that went on to make it such a successful event. Concerts took place in the framework of the enchanting piazzas Anfiteatro and Napoleone and featured great artists such as Bob Dylan and Joe Cocker. Following Summer Festivals have seen the participation of important artists from the history of rock, folk, and jazz together with new interesting artists on the horizon: Joan Baez, David Bowie, Elton John, Keith Jarret, Paul Simon, Herbie Hancock, Youssou N’Dour, Giorgia e The Cranberries to name but a few.
