Claudio Olivieri – “Quali sensi 1972-2010”

Using select examples, the exhibition retraces the various stages in the artistic career of Claudio Olivieri, one of the leading figures of the post-war European abstract movement. In his work, Olivieri strips away all that is non-essential, concentrating on elements such as colour and use of space.
The exhibition “Claudio Olivieri. Quali sensi. 1972-2010”, running from July 3rd to August 4th 2010, forms part of the summer programme of events on show at the Villa, Fabbrica dei Pinoli and Parco de La Versiliana, Marina di Pietrasanta.

Claudio Olivieri, born in Rome in 1934, moved to Milan in 1953 where he attended the Academy of Fine Art in Brera. Developing from within the circles of informal experimentation, he established himself as one of the leading figures in the movement known as Analytical Painting in the seventies. Since then, his work has become an ever more refined and personal exploration of the dynamics of vision. Besides having shown his work in important public and private exhibition spaces in Italy and abroad, Olivieri’s career also includes participation in Documenta Kassel (1997) and one-man shows at the Biennial Exhibition of Modern Art in Venice in 1966, 1980, 1986 and 1990.
