The things we don’t know how to depict
A ‘shower’ of works by the Florence-born artist Luca Alinari are on show at the new theatre, Torre del Lago, from July 30th to August 29th, on occasion of the Puccini Festival. The structure’s maxi-foyer of around 90 m² will house this singular show by the ‘figurative avantgardist’ master, with dozens of his works hanging from the ceiling by invisible metal wires.
“It will seem – he explains – like the works are suspended in thin air, like drops of water”.
The exhibition is entitled “Le cose che non sappiamo come dipingere”, a choice, reveals Alinari, exquisitely connected to Puccini opera: “I came up with the theme for this exhibition contemplating the great difficulty of capturing through the brush, or graphic art in general, the sublime nature of certain moments from Puccini opera, such parts of the divine Boheme”.
The works, all dating to the last five years, have been created using a composition technique personally devised by the artist. “It’s based – he added – on the use of stroke of the pencil, to connote figures and landscapes, and acrylic pumice to act as a counterpoint in the background, producing a truly distinctive visual effect”. Another of the exhibition’s particularities is the transparency of the foyer walls where the work is hung, which means “the rain is visible to everyone as they enter the theatre”. (Source: ANSA)
