Pino Pinelli – The surroundings of the painting
On August 7th, the inauguration of the exhibition “L’intorno della pittura” will be held on the ground floor of Villa La Versiliana. The exhibition, curated by Marco Meneguzzo, features a selection of works by the artist Pino Pinelli
Pinelli’s work involves the setting and onlooker, going beyond the traditional concept of the painting as an image and window onto another world. The actual space where the viewer breathes and moves becomes an integral part of the experience of the work. In the exhibition’s catalogue Meneguzzo writes that the work “lives in its surroundings alone, for its surroundings and because of its surroundings”. This can be referred to as a “conquest of the “framework”, or in other words that which exists around the work and goes beyond its being a mere object”.
A bi-lingual catalogue of the exhibition, with introduction by Meneguzzo, will be published. The exhibition forms part of the event “Art in Versilia”, promoted by the Town Council Arts Department, La Versiliana Foundation and Visual Arts Centre Pietrasanta.
