From the 11th – 18th October, the 27th edition of the EuropaCinema Festival will be held in Viareggio. Competing there are twelve, new, European feature films.
The festival, dedicated to European cinema, differs from previous years.
With the artistic direction of Pier Marco De Santi, replacing Felice Laudadio, the Festival has a close relationship with academia. The panel is made up of European university under-graduates in cinema, and lessons in cinema are featured in the programme.
The Festival forms part of “Viareggio EuropaCinema” together with the School of studies on cinema and performance and the Museum of Cinema, that is to set up at Villa Borbone in 2011.

Town Council of Viareggio, Tuscan Region, the Lucca Province and the Tuscany Film Commission in collaboration with both Italian and German Ministries of Culture, German Films, German Embassy and Goethe-Institut of Rome. Lancia will be main sponsor of the event.
EuropaCinema was founded by Felice Laudadio in Rimini in 1984 in collaboration with Federico Fellini, who created the festival logo and its first manifesto. In the following years, the manifestos for the Festival were designed by Michelangelo Antonioni, Tonino Guerra, Ettore Scola, Marcello Mastroianni and Ingmar Bergman.. The festival was moved to Viareggio in 1989. The artistic direction was maintained by Felice Laudadio until 1996, then by Monique Veaute from 1997-2001. Felice Laudadio took up the post again for the 2002 festival. During the course of the festival’s history, the most representative films showing new tendencies in international cinema along with retrospects and reports on great cineastes and significant phenomena in the cinematographic panorama. around the world, have been presented.
