The Province of Lucca has organised a series of guided tours to promote awareness of the Romanesque churches in the Brancoli and Versilia area.
Friday 12 november – 9 PM
Abbey of Saint Pietro
The Abbey of Saint Pietro (“Badia” for the inhabitants of Camaiore) is what remains of a Benedictine Abbey dating back to the early Middle Ages; a contender to the nearby Parish Church of Camaiore as the oldest leading ecclesiastical institution in the area. Enclosed in the 13th century within battlemented walls, of which just one gate remains in front of the façade, this monastic complex was an important stopping point for pilgrims travelling on the via Francigena.
