Guided tour of the Parish Church of Saints Stefano and Giovanni Battista

The Province of Lucca has organised a series of guided tours to promote awareness of the Romanesque churches in the Brancoli and Versilia area.

 Sunday 14 November – 4 PM
Parish Church of Saints Stefano and Giovanni Battista
The area known as Pieve, found not far from Camaiore in the hills that follow the Via Francigena towards the coast, consists of a few houses and the Church of Saints Giovanni Battista and Stefano. This historical church already existed in the 9th century with a wide jurisdiction in the area but received its present construction in the 12th century. It witnessed Camaiore grow and develop until, in the 14th century, it had to renounce the right to perform christenings to the “town” Church and was effectively left with its place-name alone.
Piazza Don Renzo 1 (ex Via Pieve 1) – Pieve di Camaiore 55041 CAMAIORE (LU)

This initiative forms part of the European ITERR-COST project which has the aim of promoting the Romanesque cultural heritage of the northern Tyrrhenian area.
