Civic Museum of Borgo a Mozzano – Didactics

The territory of Borgo a Mozzano is rich in archaeological finds. Since 1965, prehistoric, Etruscan, Ligurian and Roman artefacts have emerged continuously, many lithic instruments, pottery, coins and ornamental objects, which for many years have been kept in state deposits. In 1974, during the excavation of the pipeline, following the discovery of the Ligurian tomb, the Municipal Administration decided to establish an "antiquarium" in the entrance of the ex-magistrate's court at the Town Hall. The installation of the small museum was entrusted to Professor Guglielmo Lera, who integrated it with the materials kept in the state deposits of Lucca. After the renovation of part of the Town Hall, a room located on the ground floor (1988) became available, which was specially prepared to house the Museum: which over time has been enriched with medieval finds (human remains), coming from an excavation carried out in Colle del Landi and a naturalistic section, consisting of a collection of minerals and skeletons of domestic animals. The Civic Museum of Borgo a Mozzano is a permanent non-profit organization, with which, in the context of the Inter-municipal Museum system of the Municipalities of the Media Valle del Serchio and the Museum Network of the Province of Lucca, we intend to offer a path to deepen knowledge of the ancient and natural history of the area.
