Museum of Identity of the Upper Garfagnana

The Museum inaugurated on May 16^th, 2009 is located next to the "Old Church", on the top of the "Colle di Casa" where once stood the "Castle" and the "Old Town of Gorfigliano" and is part of the Ecomuseum of Alta Countryside. Since 1983, at the behest of the parish priest Don Alberto Bartolomei, the restoration and restructuring works of the Old Church of Gorfigliano began, for decades in complete abandonment. Numerous volunteers took part in the work, restoring the entire Old Church complex to its former glory. Among the volunteers one of the "leaders" was Olinto Cammelli, who at his home had collected this huge collection of objects (over 1300 pieces) in over 25 years. After his death in 2005 his wife Mrs. Emma Orsi wanted with great civic sense to make the collection public so that she could talk to people as Olinto would have liked. The "Paese Vecchio di Gorfigliano" Cultural Association proposed to place the collection in the rooms adjacent to the Old Church. In 2007 the Municipality of Minucciano within the Ecomuseum of the Upper Garfagnana which includes the archaeological site of Tea, the Torrione di Pugliano, the town of Bergiola and the site of the stele statues of Minucciano, designed the Museum of High Identity Garfagnana "Olinto Cammelli". The route starts from a room where ancient work machines are exhibited, the historical reconstruction of Gorfigliano before and after 1900 when the excavation of the marble began here, in the background a gigantography of the Old Church before the start of the works in 1983 (with the trees grown on the roof), continuing then you arrive in a video room where the story of the volunteers at work is told. Then you reach the central room of the museum where hundreds of objects related to the ancient crafts of the marble quarryman, the shoemaker, the shepherd, the carpenter of the carpenter blacksmith, and many others are exhibited … Upstairs there is a library with reading room, and a meeting room with video for conferences.
