Civic Museums of Villa Paolina in Viareggio

The Civic Museums of Viareggio are located in the historic residence of Paolina Bonaparte Borghese, Napoleon's sister, built for her in 1822 on a project by arch. Giuseppe Lazzarini. The halls of the monumental apartment can be visited and host temporary exhibitions. On the ground floor is the Alberto Carlo Blanc Archaeological Museum, which preserves prehistoric and protohistoric archaeological finds from north-western Tuscany, in particular from Massarosa and Camaiore. The Giovanni Ciuffreda Collection of Musical Instruments with its more than 400 musical instruments, constitutes a collection which, by variety, number of specimens and origin of the same, represents a musical heritage of enormous value in particular from an educational point of view. The atelier of the painter Alfredo Catarsini was finally rebuilt in the attic of the villa.
