“Garibaldi a Palermo” on show in Viareggio

"Garibaldi a Palermo" in mostra a Viareggio / "Garibaldi a Palermo" on show in Viareggio

From January 22 to March 13, 2011, the Matteucci Centre for Modern Art in Viareggio presents an exhibition dedicated to “Garibaldi a Palermo”, the masterpiece by Giovanni Fattori from around 1860. This large oil painting is one of the most famous depictions on the theme of the epic of the Thousand and undoubtedly the most “cinematographic” of these.
In this exhibition, curated by Giuliano Matteucci, Francesca Panconi and Roberto Viale, the “Garibaldi” is also accompanied by a selection of other works by Fattori and a series by Borrani, Buonamici and Bechi. Pieces that, closely correlated and the product of a shared figurative background, invite us to reflect upon how the path towards modernity beaten by this generation of artists is marked by elements of profound humanity.
The exhibition is promoted by the Matteucci Centre for Modern Art and coproduced by Viareggio Town Council, the Society of Fine Arts and the Matteucci Institute.
