From 12 July to 28 September the Fortino in Forte dei Marmi hosts the anthological exhibition of Walter Lazzaro.
“Approdi silenti”, that Forte dei Marmi Town Council dedicates to Walter Lazzaro to mark the centenary of his birth, represents an excursus of the life of the man and the artist.
His initial way of painting, until the 1940s, featuring landscapes and human figures, was subsequently followed by exclusively “marine” subjects: boats, huts, umbrellas, sunbathed beaches and changing coloured skies, marked by a total absence of the human figure. Lazzaro’s deportation to the two concentration camps Biala Podlaska and Langwasser left and indelible mark on his existence and artistic production. He had witnessed too much human suffering.
The choice of Forte dei Marmi as a place “close to his heart” had great importance in the second “phase” of his artistic career. Water (the sea) as a cathartic element, the boat as a vehicle of life, the infinitive as a meditative element, silence as a condition for reflection and the conciseness of the forms as come attainment of the essential, reflect a re-found equilibrium of the Artist with himself and life.
The anthological exhibition, on the first floor, is introduced on the ground floor by a collection of 30 drawings of female nudes created by Lazzaro at various points in his life. “Donnedicarta” are depictions of figures by the Roman artist that, although drawn on paper, are far from fragile
