Bagni di Lucca Art Festival: 3 months dedicated to art in all its forms.

Bagni di Lucca Art Festival: 3 mesi dedicati all'arte in tutte le sue forme. / Bagni di Lucca Art Festival: 3 months dedicated to art in all its forms.

This is the first edition of what promises to be a festival with a long tradition.

Over the summer months, Bagni di Lucca will host a number of artists from Australia, Japan, Finland, Mozambique, Ireland, Norway, Germany, Britain, the USA, Spain and Italy, putting on a long and varied series of exhibitions of painting, sculpture and photography, meetings, workshops, performances, shows, concerts and much, much more.

A special mention should go to the 2 week theatre workshop in August, held under the guidance of Ira Seidenstein, international artist, theatre director, actor, comedy writer and clown for the “Cirque du Soleil”.

Of equal importance is the involvement of the Australian pianist Ronald Farren-Price, with a concert 18 July at the “Casinò delle Terme”, dedicated to Franz Listz.

The festival came about with the aim of regenerating the hamlet of Ponte a Serraglio, disseminating art, fostering and promoting internationalisation and the coming together of different artistic cultures, while being grounded by local roots.

For this reason, the project has naturally seen the involvement of numerous Italian and Lucca artists, such as Gianmarco Caselli, Jacopo Da San Martino, Giuseppe Del Debbio, Sandro Del Pistoia, Anna Lisa Iovine, Marcantonio Lunardi, Fabio Miracolo, Stefano Pomponi and Dario Torre.

The official opening of the Festival is Saturday 13 July, when from 7pm to midnight, the small village will be brought to life with music from the Municipal Philharmonic Society La Crisi, juggling by the Karacongioli and the opening of the first series of exhibitions that will last over the summer period, in the 11 transformed art spaces of via Vittorio Emanuele.

Admission to the exhibitions, performances and all the programmed events is free for the entire Festival.

The Festival was conceived and organised by two young residents of Lucca, Jaqueline Varela and Jacob Cartwright. Cartwright is an Australian composer, musician and photographer, who, along with volunteers from the Ponte in Arte Association, has made this project possible.

The organisers, Jaqueline Varela and Jacob Cartwright acknowledge that the “Bagni di Lucca Art Festival” was made possible thanks to the anonymous contribution from the philanthropic foundation Ventures of Oakland, California, the collaboration of certain local shop keepers and property owners who helped transform spaces into splendid art venues, and the support of Bagni di Lucca Council. An essential role has also been played by the contribution of the general public, who have donated their time and manpower voluntarily and with great passion. Naturally, we should also thank all the artists who accepted the invitation to be involved and demonstrated their faith and enthusiasm for the project promoted by the “Ponte in Arte” association.
