Concetto Pozzati – “Anime silenti. Dai segni universali ai sogni quotidiani”

The exhibition “Concetto Pozzati. Anime silenti. Dai segni universali ai sogni quotidiani” (Silent souls. From universal signs to everyday dreams), promoted by Lu.C.C.A. – Lucca Centre of Contemporary Art and organised along with the Modern Art Gallery in Modena, forms part of the summer programme of events on show at the Villa, Fabbrica dei Pinoli and Parco de La Versiliana, in Marina di Pietrasanta.

In his work Concetto Pozzati performs an investigation of the everyday through the capturing of live broadcast images. His “Biblioteca dei segni” (Library of signs) and “A casa mia” (At my house) series are transformed into existential metaphors of a world in constant change.
Everything has a sense, even if nostalgic and silent, of discovery and rediscovery, with his subjects being examined from perspectives that differ from those who use them on a daily basis. The aged patina that shrouds the light of each piece gives a melancholic veil, creating at the same time an almost surreal atmosphere. Pozzati wants us to never stop dreaming, in the hope that mankind maintains contact with nature and does not fail to remember the fascinating charm of moonlight.

Concetto Pozzati was born in 1935 in Vo’ di Padova and lives in Bologna. He studied architecture and advertising. From 1956 to 1967 he taught advertising graphics. From 1967 to 1973 he taught at the Academy of Fine Art in Urbino, where he was also appointed as principal. He subsequently held this role in Venice, Florence and Bologna, where he was also the council spokesman for the Arts from 1993 to 1996. In 1998 he was artistic director of the “Casa del Mantegna”, Mantova, and in 2005 he received the University Seal from Bologna.
Since 1955 he has participated in major national and international events, including: Quadrennial Exhibitions of Modern Art in Rome and Biennial Exhibitions in Venice, S. Paolo, Brazil, Tokyo, Paris and the Dokumenta in Kassel. He has numerous anthologies to his credit.
