The photography exhibition “DAS DING – dal di dentro” (from the inside) by Emma Vitti is on show at Palazzo Panichi from 22 August to 10 September.
On show, around 40 images by the Milanese photographer, also taken in Pietrasanta’s workshops and foundries, that further her research on the controversial relation between the casing and that which it protects and imprisons at the same time.
“One of the recurring elements in the imagery by E. V. is casing; a cocoon to free ourselves from, a skin that we are about to change, a transparent film that veils – and unveils – something pushing, from underneath. A membrane to tear apart or a cover under which it is possible to breath silently.
In the most recent productions we see cellophane bags that preserve, or protect flowers, leaves, petals. The beauty of flowers and their aesthetic seduction do not let us shun from the perception of a kind of asphyxia that prompts reflections about the membranes and agile casings that interpose themselves in our lives, that creep into them hindering our relations.
In Das Ding the Milanese artist furthers her research into the ambiguous relationship between container and content, entering the Pietrasanta workshops to photograph the rubber casings used by artists to mould sculptures; moving, distorting these latex membranes, the casing melts and becomes unquestionably skin, the skin of a body.”
The exhibition is open, with free admission, from Tuesday to Sunday, hours 18 – 24.
