DI MERCOLEDI' – Scrittori e poeti viareggini e le Giornate Rosse

Villa Argentina, Viareggio's Art Nouveau jewel, hosts every Wednesday afternoon a meeting between writers and readers. The event is promoted by 'Comitato per la valorizzazione di Villa Argentina' and is assisted by the 'Bookshop Lungomare' of Viareggio. To all participants will be offered an aperitif.

Today's meeting the guests are: Renato Gerard, Ilde Bigicchi, Rolando Abbarchi, Massimiliano Todaro. Talk master: Stefano Pasquinucci. The event is part of the program "Maggio viareggino 2017 – Ricordando le giornate rosse del 1920" and will talk about  "Scrittori e poeti viareggini e le Giornate Rosse" with reading of  text passages and poems.

In May 1920, Viareggio lived a dramatic and exhilarating adventure. Augusto Morganti was killed by a carabiniere, following the accidents that occurred at the end of a football match between the teams of Viareggio and Lucca on the playground of Villa Rigutti: This was the reason of a spontaneous and violent popular revolt against the institutions. For three days, from May 2 to 4, all forms of authority were extinguished, Viareggio was isolated from the rest of the territory, and while the black flag of anarchy was waving on the City Hall, extemporary "red guards" opposed behind precarious barricades to the state that, after having mobilized the army and the navy, besieged the town by showing strength, but also demonstrating its uncertainty of decision-making and inability to act.
