The original music of the Marco Cattani Group and the clarinettist Gabriele Mirabassi are this year’s attraction at the VI European Music Festival held in piazza Anfiteatro, Lucca. The festival starts on Saturday June 19th and finishes on Monday June 21st, the day of the summer solstice.
The event is organised by the “Compagnia delle Arti” association, officially recognised by the French coordinating authorities and Italian Association for the promotion of the Festival, and supported by the Town Council of Lucca, the Province of Lucca, the Banca del Monte Foundation, and the Region of Tuscany, and sponsored by Mibac.
The festivities begin at 21.00 on Saturday June 19th with the “pilot project” by the Provincial Network of Schools of Music Orchestra.
At 21.30 on Sunday the 20th the Marco Cattani Group perform “Le città e la memoria” (Towns and Memory), written by Marco Cattani, staring the internationally renown clarinet virtuoso, Gabriele Mirabassi. Taking its inspiration from “Le città invisibili” (Invisible towns), by Italo Calvino, this work explores the theme of memory through jazz.
At 21.00 on Monday the 21st there are performances by the “Jubilum jazz Chorus” and the modern music ensemble of the municipal music school of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, followed by the Internos Quintet with Piero Gaddi on piano, Fabrizio Desideri on sax, Marco Bartalini on trumpet, Nino Pellegrini on double bass and Gian Paolo Pellicci on drums. This ensemble’s music has its roots in jazz improvisation but is also inspired and heavily influenced by the popular culture of the Mediterranean basin and Latin America.
