EXTRAORDINARY OPENING OF THE CARNIVAL MUSEUM

The Carnival Foundation of Viareggo and the Carnival Museum invite you to spend a different morning in the days of the allegorical floats parades and to experience the backstage of the event.

 

 

The morning preceding the parade begins at Citadel of Carnival very early indeed. The creators of the "paper maché giants" open the hangars, take out their creatures, mount some pieces that make them even more impressive, test movements and then around 11:00 am the floats are ready to reach the sea front. And so in single file they move to take position in the circuit of Viareggio's carnival waiting for the canon shooting that will start the parade.

 

 

In these hours the Citadel of Carnival is full of public: locals and tourists of all ages attned carefully to the assembly operations. Exactly to offer to visitors, especially if these are strangers or foreigners, the chance to know from close the history of our Carnival will be open exceptionally from 9:30 to 11:30 am the Carnival and the Carnevalotto Museums. The first one is essentially an educational museum that traces the history of the event which dates back to 1872 and shows the skill with which the allegorical floats have been and are still constructed. The Carnevalotto museum displays instead a collection of  contemporary art works which have been donated by renowned international artists to the Fondazione Carnevale di Viareggio.
