“Napoleonic conversations” is back this summer with a new edition of the three evenings of talks which reveal little known particulars of Napoleon and Elisas’ lives, the new ideas and countless initiatives by one of history’s most discussed emperors.

Each evening has a different theme and takes place in San Micheletto’s Church at 21.30.

Wednesday 21 August:

“The flying ambulances. Surgeons, camels and cellar-women on the battlefields”
by Velia Gini Bartoli and Simonetta Giurlani Pardini.
This talk is on how Bonaparte, having chosen the innovative surgeon Dominique Jean Larrey for his army, enhanced emergency surgery and the transportation and distribution of synthetic medicines. He also promoted the role of women in military camps, who were recruited not only for the purposes of nursing, food and hygiene, but also trained in the use of weapons.

Thursday 22 August:

“The Good, the Conceited and the Emperor. Opera in 3 acts for the control of the World”
by Peter Hicks.
This university lecturer will inform the audience on what really happened on the Iberian Peninsula; the intrigues, attacks, alliances and betrayals that unfolded in Napoleon’s ascent, defeat and exile.

 Friday 23 August 21.30:

“Napoleon on film. Love, snowballs and dreams of greatness”
by Pier Dario Marzi. In collaboration with Cineforum Ezechiele 25,17.
A selection of cinematographic sequences focusing on the emperor’s human side, including the childhood of this extremely multifaceted character, seen through the eyes of different directors.
