The village of Montecarlo, situated on the crest of the ridge that separates the Valdinievole from Lucca Piana, was built in 1333 to gather at the rock of Cerruglio the inhabitants of Vivinaia Communities destroyed by the Florentines in 1331.
The village was called Monte Carlo in honor of Prince Charles, son of King John of Bohemia, liberator of Lucca from occupation Pisa. The prince, who became emperor under the name of Charles IV, was repeatedly in Montecarlo dealing with the fortification of the fortress that proved to be a strategic stronghold in the wars that were fought in the fourteenth century between Lucca, Pisa and Florence.
On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the birth of Carlo IV of Bohemia, in the historical center of the country dedicated to him it will be staged setting of medieval type with furnishings and with costumed characters and dishes prepared according to recipes from the 14th century.
In the restaurants of the country, besides the usual specialties, also a medieval menu.
Tthe Historical Group will perform in games, combats and ceremonies typical of the Middle Ages and will frame the songs events, medieval music.
On 25 June at 17:00 at the Fortress of Cerruglio, will be inaugurated the exhibition exhibition "Charles IV in Italy" in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome and guided tours will be carried out.
