Saturday 26 October, from 9.00 to 13.00, at the Rappresentanza hall of Palazzo Ducale in Lucca, Giulio Ferroni, historian of Italian literature, and Glori Manghetti, dir. Gabinetto Vieusseux, will discuss: ” Idee per la cultura, necessità del presente”.
Pointing put how, from Versilia to Garfagnana, the province of Lucca has been a protagonist in 20th century Italian literature and art with “international relations and presences of exceptional creativity in a wide range of fields, from the plastic arts to literature, from cinema to the structure of everyday life itself”, Giulio Ferroni presses for a re-reading of the creatively rich territory, to be promoted and rediscovered.
The panel discussion, organised by the Mario Tobino Foundation, will provide the opportunity to debate the meaning and importance of today’s cultural composition for the development of the country. The event will be attended by the major institutional figures of the territory – president of the Provincial Authorities of Lucca and Mario Tobino Foundation, Stefano Baccelli, Mayor of Lucca, Alessandro Tambellini and the Mayor of Viareggio, Leonardo Betti.
The debate will also include the presentation of “La sabbia e il marmo. La Toscana di Mario Tobino” (Sand and marble. The Tuscany of Mario Tobino), the book which reports the initial results of the Mario Tobino Foundation project “Cultura e arte: l’identità del territorio”.
