“Il Diavolo e l’acqua santa” - Omaggio a Eugenio Pieraccini / “Il Diavolo e l’acqua santa” - Tribute to Eugenio Pieraccini

March 5-27, 2011, in the Barsacchi Hall at La CIttadella (Viareggio), Fondazione Carnevale di Viareggio presents the exhibition “Il Diavolo e l’acqua santa”, a tribute to the painter Eugenio Pieraccini.

Eugenio Pieraccini
was born in Viareggio on 29th July 1922. His first painting experiences date back to 1936 and they were strongly influenced by Lorenzo Viani’s painting. His still-life paintings, the landscapes and especially the wet docks emphasize a dramatic power which will be slowly refined when he then meets Carlo Carrà, Alfiero Cappellini, Giovanni March and Arturo Dazzi. He was also particularly influenced by another artist, Moses Levy, who always used to encourage him in the use of those inseparable aspects of satire and poetry in painting.
In 1952 he organized the first “Lorenzo Viani” Painting Prize in Lido di Camaiore (Professor Carlo Ludovico Raggianti was the President of the Jury) and was the author of the Marguttiana Art Exhibition in 1962.
He was the Director of the S. Lucia Art Gallery in Rome and on his return to Versilia he organized, for some years, important sculpture exhibitions with works of Henry Moore, Pietro Cascella, Lucio Fontana and Giò Pomodoro. He illustrated records and book covers. The intense artistic activity of Eugenio Pieraccini ends with his death in 1980 in Pietrasanta.
