LA FOLLA

The town of Pietrasanta presents its traditional summer exhibition celebrating Jørgen Haugen Sørensen, one of the most important Danish living sculptors. The exhibition is inaugurated on June 17 at 6:30 pm, is curated by Bruno Corá and Lars Kærulf Møller and is dedicated to the latest sculpture works in ceramic, bronze and marble and an anthology of the artist, and represents a tribute to Jørgen Haugen Sørensen's long relationship with Pietrasanta. The heart of the town, affecting the Sant'Agostino Complex, Piazza del Duomo and the space of the Paola Raffo Contemporary Art Gallery.

Jørgen Haugen Sørensen spent most of his working life in Italy and his first contact with Pietrasanta, where he still resides, dates back to the early 1970s . It was a contract for the Danish School of Media and Journalism, which brought him in 1971 to Versilia and this period is celebrated in the exhibition with the installation Portrait of an old agreement, fragments of bronze sculptures recomposed on the floor of Sala Putti.

Focus of the exhibition is the monumental bronze The Crowd, donated by the New Carlsberg Foundation to Pietrasanta, which dominates Piazza Duomo along with another bronze, The Shadow, realized thanks to the support of the Danish Arts Foundation. In front of the Sant'Agostino Church will be installed the imposing 1,80 m sculpture – While We're Waiting – made of marble of Versilia, and in the inside the main works of the sculptor will be exposed. The cloister garden will be animated by five granite sculptures dating back to the 1980s, which will interact with the bell tower and the palaces of the old town visible from the inside of the cloister. A new white porcelain stoneware series entitled Dark Story in White will be exhibited in Sala Capitolo, ending the exhibition path in the Paola Raffo Contemporary Art Gallery with polychrome sculptures from the '90s.

Jørgen Haugen Sørensen's works reflect, with a crude and sometimes brutal style, his personal vision of the human condition, they capture and recount the fundamental themes of life and death, love and suffering using sculpture as an elective language.

On July 1 on stage of the Teatro de La Versiliana in Marina di Pietrasanta, the DAP Festival Artistic Project will present a performance of the Royal Danish Theater with a scenery by Maestro Haugen Sørensen, a choreography by Sebastian Kloborg and music by the contemporary composer Kim Helweg .
On this occasion also the catalog of the exhibition will be presented , which examines the most recent works of the artist, telling about his life in Pietrasanta.
