The Foundation Ancient Mint of Lucca presents an exhibition on the beginnings of printing thanks to documents, incunabula and rare books from the sixteenth century kindly provided by the Diocesan Library of Lucca. A total of eighty precious volumes, rich in engravings and miniatures dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth century, as well as the amazing globes of Gerardus Mercator dating back to 1531.
The exhibition curated by Rodolfo Rossi and Leo Giancarlo Lazzari is open until May 27 during the opening hours of the Mint Museum.
The visit of the exhibition will be also an opportunity to appreciate the permanent collection of the museum with its historic workshop and some antique machinery. In the Mint premises is preserved a treasure in documents, coins and medals that make about the greatness of the Republic of Lucca. The Mint of Lucca besides being the oldest of Europe has been the longest-working one indeed, beating coins uninterruptedly from 650 to 1843.
